She was born the 2nd of february of 1977 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Her complete name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll. She emerged in a musical scene in Latin America in the year
1990.
She is the only child of Nidya del Carmen Ripoll Torrado and William Mebarak Chadid. Her name means thankful in arabic.
She is singer-song writter and with only four years she rote her first poem. She speaks 3 languages: Spanish, English and Portuguese.
Her first album was tittled " Magia " , was recorded in 1990 by Sony Music. At that time she was only thirteen. Her last works are " La Loba " and " Gypsy ".
Also she has made some colaboration works with others musicians for example:
- in 2003, with Tim Mitchell they made the song called " Come Down Love ".
- in 2006, with the spanish musician Alejandro Sanz they made the song called : " Te lo agradezco pero no " that was part of Alejandro's album called "El tren de los momentos ".
- she worked with Miguel Bosé making de song "Si tu no vuelves ".
- in 2007 with Beyonce the made the song called " Beautiful Liar " , with that work she won a Grammy Award for the best pop collaboration with vocals.

Humanitarian work:
She founded the " Pies Descalzos fundation " that is a colombian charity with special schools for poor people all over the country.
It was founded by Shakira, internetional groups and also other individuals. The name is taken of the album of Shakira called like that. It was recorded in 1995.
Her music style:
Is known to have adopted many genres, including folk, mainstream pop and rock. For examle the album " Pies Descalzos " was a mix of folk music and latin rock and one of her last albums " She Wolf " if a mix of electro pop and dance music.
